Ashburn, GA is a southern small town located along Interstate 75 in Turner County, Georgia. It was chartered over 125 years ago in 1891. Currently, almost 3,700 people reside in Ashburn. Every fourth weekend in March, Ashburn hosts the Fire Ant Festival. This annual festival boasts a variety of unique events like a fire ant calling contest, “manty”hose contest, lip sync contest, and much more. Ashburn used to be the home of the world’s largest peanut. However, the nutty landmark was destroyed during Hurricane Michael in October 2018. Residents hope to see it rebuilt to its former glory in the upcoming years. To learn more about Ashburn, listen to its #SmallTownPodcast episode featuring Mayor Sandy Lumpkin and Ashley Miller, the Director of the Ashburn Turner County Chamber of Commerce.
