Metter is a small town located in Candler County in Southeast Georgia. According to a local legend, the city is named after a railroad official’s wife and the place where he “met her.” Over 100 years ago, in 1903, Metter was incorporated in Bulloch County. It was only after the efforts of Dr. Wallace Kennedy, Eugenia Candler, and a group of local citizens that Metter became the county seat of Candler County, the 105th county of Georgia created from parts of Bullock, Emanuel, and Tattnall Counties. Today, approximately 4,000 people call Metter home and experience first-hand why life is #BetterinMetter. From the Metter Farmer’s Market to the beautiful Guido Gardens, there are some many reasons to love and visit this small town!
